MEET OUR CHARLESTON RESTAURANT CLIENT: Maverick Southern Kitchens

Maverick Southern Kitchens is a Charleston restaurant company devoted to the pleasure and satisfaction you enjoy through a truly exceptional dining experience. Based in the heart of the Lowcountry of Charleston, South Carolina, we own and operate a collection of unique restaurants, as well as a combination kitchen shop and cooking studio where amateur chefs find the finest culinary tools while learning the secrets of using them well.

Our restaurant company's principal is Richard Elliott, a culinary innovator who came to the dining scene from successful careers as a journalist, lawyer and division president of a major manufacturer. In all we do, the Maverick restaurant approach to cuisine is pure Charleston, with a twist. We start with fresh, local foods, preparing them in ways that have been refined by generations of immigrants from virtually every ethnic background. Then we add the subtle touch that makes each dish uniquely Maverick. Whether you're joining us to dine, shop or hone your cooking skills, we hope you enjoy your culinary experience, again and again. Take a deeper look at our restaurants, as we've introduced you to them below:

Our Charleston SC Restaurants

Slightly North of Broad

In a 19th century brick warehouse located just north of historic Broad Street, you'll taste what the Maverick brand of southern cooking is all about. Award-winning executive chef Frank Lee starts with the Carolina Lowcountry's rich resources, then adds his own blend of flavors from Charleston's multicultural heritage. Our open kitchen brings this whole process within view, making the sights, sounds and scents a tantalizing part of your dining experience. We specialize in seafood, game, vegetarian dishes and other regional favorites - plus wines from acclaimed domestic and international producers.

High Cotton

Welcome to pure Charleston. Our heart pine floors, wide-bladed ceiling fans and walls of hand-made brick have been the signatures of Lowcountry high-life since antebellum times. Even our name is derived from plantation jargon for livin’ large. You can almost hear the echoes of local planters doing deals over glasses of brown whiskey. Our menu is hearty and southern, featuring regional favorites, steaks, game and fresh seafood – all prepared with the famous Maverick artistry. We’re also known for our award-winning wine selection and irresistible desserts. And don’t miss the High Cotton bar, one of the area’s most popular watering holes.

Old Village Post House

Among the moss-draped oaks of the Old Village of Mt. Pleasant you can dine and relax in the centuries-old tradition of the post house -- wayside inns where travelers stopped overnight for good food and friendly conversation. The beautifully restored building dates from the 19th century, but the food and service are up-to-the-moment. We feature Lowcountry dining favorites with the famous Maverick touch, and there’s a classic tavern that is a gathering place for friends from near and far. And the inn offers six delightful rooms only minutes from the beaches and downtown Charleston.
